Presented by Robleswrites Productions Inc., highlights and celebrates the diversity, perceived flaws, and underappreciated features of intergenerational women living in New York City, through ritual healing exercises and original works of performance poetry, storytelling prose, photography, and experimental film. Award-winning performance poet Peggy Robles-Alvarado (robleswrites.com) created this project as an act of creative rebellion against those who seek to critique and diminish the distinct bodies of women of color.
Peggy not only aims to depict specific aspects of women’s bodies as individual works of art worthy of exalting in poetry, photography, film, and performance but also wants to see women of color proudly pose for cameras and continuously tell their stories as they age.
She asserts that women at any age are more than just daughters, sisters, or caregivers who fade from family photos- they are beautiful and deserve to be front and center. The entire project includes poetry, and prose, partially funded by a grant through The Bronx Council on the Arts.
The “More Than Just…” project features photos taken by Peggy Robles- Alvarado and edited by Tamara G. Saliva (tamaragsaliva.com) with production, makeup, and costume assistance by Lillybeth Gonzalez (lillybethgonzalez.com) and Vanessa Chica Ferreira (vanessachica.com).
